CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Now is the time to make sure your air conditioner is working properly as air conditioning can take months to repair due to bottlenecks.
WE Brown President Jay Taggart says a shortage of microchips and sheet metal makes it difficult to repair AC units in a timely manner.
“Things that can normally be done in a week or so take up to eight to ten weeks as quickly as possible,” Taggart said.
Taggart says this problem has been going on for more than a year.
“We definitely saw the lead times get longer last summer during the pandemic, and then we saw them slowly get better and now they are back or worse than the lead times we saw last summer,” said Taggart. “It is definitely a challenge for us to find out how to take care of our customers every day.”
According to Taggart, to avoid an AC power problem, it is important to make sure that your device is in good condition.
“All manufacturers recommend having your devices serviced every year. This includes cleaning the inner and outer coils, keeping the fan wheel clean and changing the filter, ”said Taggart. “Operating the device normally and not setting it to extremely low temperatures can also relieve the device and help to extend its service life.”
